Carroll Swenson-Roberts - Dog Walk, 2008

Dog Walk is about my walks at White Rock Lake in the morning. My dog is one big snout, and her nose is to the ground smelling every smell she can find. I am looking for every pattern, shape and shadow I can find. I used pencil, pastel, gesso, ink, watercolor color pencil and pens.

Carroll explains: "Clouds I did with my fingers by rubbing pastel and pigment on claybord. No water, oil binder was used.

Catastrophic Weather is about the beauty in the natural world that makes me anxious. I used ink on 6 claybords and varnished it glossy.

Carroll Swenson-Roberts - Black Birds Roosting, 2008
mixed media - 25 x 52 inches
I painted Blackbirds Roosting after watching all the birds roosting at the old Minyards grocery store . I also was looking at a Book about Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. There is a detail in it that reminded me of the birds at Minyards. The blackbirds are Charcoal the leaves are pencil and pastel, upper part of the picture is watercolor over gesso.

Blackbirds is just about drawing . I used a stylus and black ink and made lots of marks untill I had a bird.

Carroll Swenson-Roberts - Beastie, 2007

Beastie is about living with the beast of the dog I have and how she lays around looking beastly all day. I used watercolor and color pencil on 4 claybords.
